Who doesn't like banishing the winter blues, coming in out of the cold and eating a winter warmer? We all do, for sure; but there are people in Palma de Mallorca who are down on their luck, and can't provide for themselves. We at the Aya Hotel are doing our bit to help make sure no-one's left out, not only this Christmas but all year round. That's why, through the Palma Beach Hotel-Trade Association, we are supporting the Es Refugi non-profit organization, whose principal aim is to provide hospitality to people who, for a whole range of different reasons, are undergoing, or threatened with, social exclusion, and meet their basic needs. Once a fortnight the Aya Hotel helps by providing an assortment of foods which the volunteers from Es Refugi collect and use to cook for about 50 persons who eat at the organization's dining facility for the needy.
We are aware of how important it is to support organizations such as Es Refugi which provide a lifeline to those in greatest need. However, people's basic needs arise not only during the festive season, but all year round. Therefore we do our bit not only in the winter months, but 365 days a year.
By helping in this small way and joining our efforts with those of the Association and its other members, we hope to change the lives of many needy people; and the thought of it makes us very happy.
The staff of the Aya Hotel takes care of collecting together the foodstuffs that we donate each fortnight and handing them over to the team of volunteers from Es Refugi. The foodstuffs that are needed most are lettuces, tomatoes, onions, carrots, chicken, beetroot, beans, chickpeas... The staple foods in the diet and non-perishable foods.
We're doing our bit, and we encourage you all to do the same. You can bring your donations of food to the Aya Hotel, and we shall send them on to Es Refugi via the Association. We hope a day will come when actions of this kind are no longer needed. Meanwhile, we shall continue to give practical support, hoping thereby to bring that day ever closer.
